Project Properties > Presets (pull down) > HDTV 1080i (16:9). It's about half way down the presets list.

In fact i can work in 16:9 canvas layout with your advice, thanks for that, but my after purpose is to import the finish LiveType clip to Fcp into a pal 720 576 anamorphic preset.

720 X 576 is NOT 16:9. 720 X 405 is. You could just work in the large HDTV 16:9 and then shrink it in FCP when you import. (Actually, FCP should do it for you.)

for 16:9 anamorphic PAL...

select "CCIR 601 DV PAL 5:4" from the dropdown
set the Pixel Aspect to 1.42

This will give you the right layout, make sure to set the clip to Anamorphic in FCP when you import.

Can't remember where I found this tip originally (may well have been on here somewhere!!) but it's worked for me!

Hi Matt!
My fcp project presets for capture and for sequence are in dv pal 48 kHz anamorphic and when i import the LiveType clip with your presets advice comes in 5:4 normal!!! i will have to do something else for setting the clip to fcp?
Another thing; When i put the LiveType project with your presets advice the canvas layout of it stays in 5:4 normal and no in 16:9 format! This is normal???

Before placing your footage on the timeline select it in the browser, then go Edit>Item properties and click next to where it says Anamorphic in the list.
A couple of ticks will appear - now that this is checked your anamorphic footage will display correctly in FCP.
