What Mac Pro do I have?
by Gary Steward on Sep 10, 2009 at 11:33:34 am

A few years ago I bought a Mac Pro with the following specs:
Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon 'Woodcrest' processors
&
4gb 667MHz DDR2 Ram.

I'm wanting to upgrade my memory card, and my RAM to the best possible (saving myself on buying a new Mac Pro) but am unsure how do find what 'generation' of Mac I have... Does anyone know of an easy way?

I use Final Cut Studio for HDV & HD films and have VMWARE Fusion for some Vista-only apps?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but it seemed the closest match... and thanks for any advice you can offer.

under the apple menu, select "About This Mac".
From the window that opens, click on "More Info..."
This launches the system profiler.
The last item in the initial window, "Hardware Overview' is the serial number.
Copy this number and go to: http://support.apple.com/specs/
Enter the serial number in the search dialog and it will bring up the specs for that particular system.

simplified:

under the apple menu, select "About This Mac".
•Then just click two times on "Version ..." and the SN# appears.•

Cheers Fred
