Mac Pro Raid Card installation
by William Wedig on Nov 11, 2007 at 12:20:44 am

Can anyone recommend a good RAID card for a mac pro (PCIe slots). I need to do a 3 disk array with a RAID 5 setup and Apple doesn't sell their card separate after you've bought the system. They have to install it themselves before they ship. plus it's a whopping thousand bucks anyway. Not worth it.

I was looking at 3 ware but I'm not sure which ones are mac compatible.

Thanks,
Will Wedig

Mac Pro dual quad 3.0ghz, OS X 10.4.10, 9gbs ram

FYI -

Apple is now selling the hardware RAID card as an upgrade for the Mac Pro, meaning you can buy it separately.

As far as I'm aware, the Apple card is the only hardware RAID-5 card that supports the Mac Pro's internal drive bays. It's also bootable and has a battery backup.

$1000 is not a lot, comparatively speaking, for this kind of hardware.

If you want to use an external enclosure, there are other options like the Highpoint RocketRSAID series.
