Worst Mac Day Ever... Fix or buy new....

Ok - my personal Mac (dual 1.8 G5 PCI-X version) blew up--- logic board is done & gone.... apple care expired... by just about a month....
Apple store says a new logic boad installed is $1080. Curious about how many of you would pony up for the fix, or pony up more for a new mac pro... yes I'll have to buy more ram - guess I will not need another external sata card as the new mac will hold all my formerly external drives....

Anyone kwanna buy a G5 with a cooked logic board?

Oh and to top it off.... my work G5 start-up drive dies today too... at least thats cheap & easy... thanks god for backing-up.... but it was a pain to haul 2 G5's to the store...

I'd at least check google to see if there are Mac repair shops near you. Give them a call and ask for a quote to fix it. Might as well get a 2nd opinion.

But yeah, if it's gonna be that much, just scrap it.

You can salvage the hard drives, at least, unless you're looking to fill the MacPro up with 2 TB and don't need your old drives.

I bet the RAM is worth something on E-Bay too. Check Crucial.com to see what it goes for new and judge from that on how much to charge for it.

As for the casing? Well, the Mac-Aquarium guys don't seem to have a G5 on their page yet...I bet you could really blow them away!

A local place in LA says they can do it for $675 - so I'm gong with them....

the fish tank is a good idea too, but the hole on the G5 make me think its more suited to a snake tank....

I guess I could try and actually make it into a cheese grater...
