The Supervising Editor is responsible for setting and overseeing the editorial direction of the lynda.com video training content. In this role, the Supervising Editor oversees a team of editors to ensure the editing, compression, and post-production of our video-training content meets the highest quality standards and is released to our customers in a timely and efficient manner. The Supervising Editor is responsible for continuously reviewing and improving the editing workflow, including overseeing the storage and archiving of our digital video assets, researching and understanding new trends and technologies in the digital video industry, and researching and understanding new trends and technologies in online video distribution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee a team of editors to ensure the editing style meets the overall editorial direction.
  • Review footage from editors and provide ongoing feedback to continually improve the editorial process.
  • Develop and refine guidelines, workflow, and processes on an ongoing basis to ensure the style, format, and quality of our video production consistently meets the educational needs of our customers.
  • Perform and oversee all functions of staff management of editors, such as hiring, training, mentoring, assessing performance, career planning, and other HR-related functions.
  • Maintain an ongoing hiring and staffing plan to meet the changing product delivery requirements.
  • Oversee the schedule for all editing projects to ensure the Video Production team meets the dates defined by Program Management.
  • Work closely with the Program Management, Quality Assurance, and Training Development teams to ensure there is effective communication and handoffs between the teams at every phase of the production process.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance and Training Development teams to review beta feedback and assess how to improve the editing process to improve overall product quality and reduce waste
  • Work with Program Management to develop short- and long-term strategies for the internal project management system to support improvements in process, data collection, and reporting.
  • Develop and monitor metrics for the video production team, including output, efficiency, and quality.
  • Conduct ongoing research of our competitors and make recommendations and improvements to our process to ensure the editorial quality of our video training is current in the ever-changing video-training market.


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • A 4-year degree in technology, business, or multimedia
  • 5+ overseeing editorial teams, assigning, managing and integrating multiple segments into coherent shows, managing workflow delivery schedules, guiding editors and making creative and technical editorial decisions
  • Experience working with key video-editing, effects, and compression applications, including Final Cut Pro, After Effects, QuickTime, and Compressor
  • Experience working with screen capture software, such as Snapz and Camtasia
  • Knowledge of leading video file formats for the Web, including QuickTime (MOV), Flash Video (FLV), and Windows Media (WMV)
  • Experience working with digital asset management systems for the storage and archiving of digital video
  • Understanding of Podcast Producer and/or other server-based encoding solutions
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent research and analysis skills
  • Experience teaching or developing video-based educational content is considered an asset
