DE:Noise...How to deal with hand movement?
by Brent Streeper on Jun 26, 2009 at 12:10:21 am

Hello,
For the past few days I've been trying out various noise reduction filters/plugins and have really taken a liking to DE:Noise. Most of the footage will be talking heads interviews, but occasionally someone will throw in a wild hand gesture that really messes with DE:Noise. Any ideas on how to deal with it? Maybe throwing in some keyframes and lowering the temporal threshold during the hand movement? I'll keep working on it.
Thanks in advance.
Brent

That's really the best way.

Sometimes the source material isn't that easily trackable (for example, where do the parts of the face go when the hand moves in? Easy for us humans, hard for the computer). Of course this causes issues for the temporal part of DE:Noise to be able to do as good of a job as when things are more easily tracked.

And in those areas where the hand moves in front of the face, you might try a bit more spatial filtering if you feel too much noise is left after reducing the temporal settings.
