CC monitoring
by kujtim ereqi on Sep 8, 2009 at 2:50:44 pm

Besides Blackmagic decklink, is there any card that supports CC through an external monitor.
What about cards with dvi port, like quadro cx , or even nvidia 285.
thanks

The only options currently available under Windows are:

- Blackmagic DeckLink cards
- AJA Xena when used with Cineform software
- NVidia (PNY) Quadro 5400 with SDI option (we have not tested any variations on this)

Thanks Bob for the quick reply. Do you have any idea which of these cards would be better for R3D files workflow.

What about future releases, do you plan to support more cards?

I'd recommend a DeckLink card, unless you want to use of the Cineform software for its features. The Quadro is too expensive for anything other than special applications.

Support for more cards is definitely on our list, but it's a bit early to say exactly what cards will be supported. We tend to focus on the dedicated video cards (Blackmagic or AJA) rather than standard video cards that happen to have video output. The standard video cards tend to have very short life spans with no standard interface for us to write to.

I read the posts about Intensity Pro issues with Premiere. It happen that we have such a card in one of our computers. Will this card work OK with Color Finesse in After Effects, because it's there where I make the CC.

We have reports of there being problems with the Intensity Pro and other reports from users who have no problems at all with it. It works fine in our test system.

We're currently trying to gather information on software versions to try to figure out why there is a difference.

At this point, I would have to say try it and see, and report the results to us so we can get to the bottom of it.

(And, just as speculation, a problem with the exact same symptom occurred on the Mac and was resolved by Blackmagic with a driver update. It's possible that they've also resolved it on the Windows side and those of us for whom it works are using an updated driver.)

And, again, the cards we officially support from Blackmagic are the Decklink line, not the Intensity line.

But there's no good reason for the Intensity not to work...

Hi,
Any idea whether support for the MXO2 mini will be added? (Windows)
Also, in the meantime, is it possible to use one card in PPro (mxo2 mini, for client monitoring), but have a second card in the same system (Decklink series) just to monitor CC from Color Finesse. Wouldn't that confuse ColorFinesse?
Thanx

The MXO-2 family is on our list, but since it's not done yet I can't say for certain it will make the next release.

And, yes, you can have multiple cards in a system and have Color Finesse use just one of them. Color Finesse ignores all cards until you select one in the Preferences, so in your example you'd select the Decklink and it would be used for previews, while everything else is ignored.

Thanx Bob,
that's great news, as the mxo2 mini (on windows) integrates so well with PPCS4, Cineform (Prospect HD support in November). The only great app missing was Color Finesse! The use of these three apps working together with the MXO2 Mini will be a great workflow.
Thanx again for confirming MXO2 Mini was on the list...

Hi again Bob!
We decided to invest in a Decklink card whilst you guys are working on the MXO2 Mini compatibility. Would the Decklink Studio work, since it's relatively recent in the Decklink range,
( http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/decklink/ )
and has it been tested 100% OK for use with PPCS4 and Color Finesse?
Thanx

We haven't specifically tested the Decklink Studio card, but we work with all the other Blackmagic cards we've tested, so I would be surprised if it didn't work.
