Freezing and connections

Do you have keyframes, constraints, expressions, etc., on the object you're trying to freeze, or on any of its parents? You'll have to remove those if you want to freeze transformations.

Also keep in mind that you can open the options box and freeze only Translate, Rotate, or Scale... you don't have to freeze them all.
