Realistic grass with maya

Hi everybody, I'm a new maya user and I hope you could help me. I'm doing my final thesis at university and I need to create avery realistic grass in maya for my project.
First of all I want to let you know that I have already looked for tutorials on internet and I Have tried all of them. with no results. I mean, I have to realize some very big patches of "england" grass, the short and green one like this:
I tried to change so many parameters to change the tutorials in what I wanted. the lenght, the global scale ecc..I tried the painteffect and the fur too, with no results. most of the tutorial are really good with a long distance rendering. I need something that i good in very close distance too.
Could someone show me how to do?Thanks

no magic button here, I've done grass, and if you wanna get in there, you need geometry grass, at least for the foreground grass, mix it up with some fur grass for the middle to background planes.
