I've projected a matte paining I made onto some simple geometry in order to create a 2.5D camera move. I usualy use AE for this but from what I've seen, a 3D package creates a more believable result. The only problem I'm haveing is figuring out how derive the lighting from the painting itself. Without lights, the scene obviously renders black but when I use any type of light the geometry has highlights and shadows creating a really odd result. What am I missing?

this one is easy, but I've seen different ways to do it, i like this one

create a Lambert material
assign you texture to the color channel

and then this it the trick

put ambient color aaaaaall the way to one
and diffuse all the way to zero

this will make the surface a total replica of your image, also, change the filtering in the image node, I change it from the default Quadratic option to OFF, so guys like to just lower it I just turn it off.

this will work for you, it does for me

good luck
