I just learning Maya using Gnomon DVD's and I find that I cannot move the pivot point as shown in the DVD. I select the move tool, hit return and then try to move the tool to another point but it moves all the points selected on the model. Help, what am I doing wrong? I am sure that it is something very easy.

Thanks for your help!

You want to hit 'Insert' to enter pivot-moving mode.

[Steve Sayer] "Insert'"
I thought that return was insert. Sorry but what is the insert key?

Thanks!

Ah, I guess you're using a Mac?

This comes up once in a while--do a search for threads. I'm not sure if there's another key to use or if you have to map it to one specifically.

In the meantime, holding down 'd' should also activate the tool. Unlike the Insert method, you have to keep holding down 'd' as long as you use it.

Thanks Steve, you're good at reading minds. Got any Lottery numbers I can use?

Thanks again.

Don't use a MAC but believe the "Home" key on a MAC is the same as insert? Good chance I'm wrong but give it a whirl.

Was he looking for the home key on a Mac?

I think he was pointing out that the 'home' key (on a mac) toggles the 'change pivot point'

I wonder if you can help a beginner level Maya user>
I downloaded the student level for MAC
Problem is the Cross hairs for XYZ is Huge! (Scale, rotate, move) It's arrows go beyond the page.

I assume it's because of my graphics card. ATI radion in my imac. I have a ATA on the way.

Thanks

On a PC not a Mac, the plus and minus keys on the keyboard area will increase or decrease the manipulator. I'd assume thats the same on a MAC but I could be wrong.

Old thread!...

Try doing a search and as your new to Maya, it's a deep program but the help documents are extremely handy and can answer most all of your questions.

The command is called "ctxEditMode" without the quotes. this is the command that is sent to maya when insert or home is pressed, on a pc or mac respectively. it can be rebound to whatever you want by going into the hotkey editor (window > setting/preferences > hotkey editor), going to the tools category, and its called "EnterEditMode".

hope this helps someone
