exporting camera data
by miabumbag on Jul 11, 2007 at 5:14:37 pm

hi

i am trying to export camera data to use in combustion. i am exporting a rla file with the "use z depth" box ticked. when i import it into combustion though it says there is no z depth. any ideas why? i have looked at old post which mentioned using MEL but that just confused the hell out of me cos i'm new to all this!

any help would be brill!

thanks

Mia

Are you exporting camera data, or rendering images with z-depth information?

A camera has no z-depth information - a camera has translation and rotation information, focal length information, F stop information etc.

An image would have z-depth channel embedded (just like an alpha channel) or rendered out sperately as a grayscale image.

have a look at this

hi!

okay..it's seems i'm confusing the matter slightly. i'm am after exporting camera data only. i've made some worlds that revolve and the camera moves in on them. i want to composite stars in the background at a different depth so that as the camera moves the stars change. i tried this by adding an image plane in maya but that didn't quite work so i thought i'd try combustion.
the tutorials look great though. thanks for posting them!!!
