making roots grow

Hi,

I have just started a project where I have to make roots grow. I am running Maya 5 unlimited. Any and all ideas will be much appreciated.

Paint Effects is perfect for this, as long as you don't need any extreme close-ups of the roots themselves.

If you do need close-ups, maybe model one or two roots, keeping history on to animate diameter and length and so on, and use Paint Effects for the rest of the roots in the background.

Yes Paint Effects or X-frog (3rd party plug-in) would do the trick

Hi Jon W.
What exactly is X-frog and how do I get it and how does it work? Is it a plug-in to Maya?
