Distorted image in the image planes in the perspective view.
by Time_to_retire on Mar 7, 2006 at 10:19:51 pm

I'm new to Maya so this problem might just be me not knowing the software yet. Started working through modeling a human figure using Tareq Mirza's "Organic Modeling -1" DVD. I downloaded the images from the freedom-of-teach site and placed the front view image in the front view image plane. and the side view in the side view image plane. The problem is, the images in the perspective view are rotated about 45 degrees with half of the figure going out one side of the plane and the other out the other side. The other two views are normal. Have I got something set up wrong in the perspective camera or is there another problem? Any help would be appreciated.

maya has issues with non-squared textures. make sure your image resolution is a power of 2. 64x64, 128x128, 256x256 etc...

Thanks Chad for your response.

All the images are jpg images that are 586 X 1200 shots of their resin cast models. In the demo Mirza's perspective window looks normal. I would assume that he is using the same images as I am since I downloaded them from their site. But he is using May 6, I think, and I'm using Maya 7. I wouldn't think that would be the problem. He also has way more experience with Maya than I so if he had the problem he would know how to fix it.

Can you think of any other reason I should be having this problem? Again, I really appreciate your response, thanks.

I solved my problem by writing the following lines into my Maya.env file

MAYA_SLOW_DRAWPIXELS = 1;
MAYA_NON_POWER_TWO_OFF = 1;

It worked for me I hope it works for you

Dear Time to retired,
I have the same problem and I'm happy to find the solution with you but, where, exacly do I paste these line :
MAYA_SLOW_DRAWPIXELS = 1;
MAYA_NON_POWER_TWO_OFF = 1;

I know you write in the Maya.env file but where is this file?
I would like to have more precision on that issue.

Many thanks to you !

Morlau
