1080/60i vs 1080/30p
by Chuck Roberson on Oct 12, 2009 at 6:05:45 pm

Which mode should I shoot in to capture our church services - 1080/60i or 1080/30p on my Canon XH-A1 camera? I will be using Sony Vegas Pro 9 for editing and DVD Arch to create DVDs.

Thanks,

Chuck

I just depends on what you want it to look like. 60i is going to give you a very "live" videoy look. 30p is going to give a slightly more dramatic filmic look (although not quite so much as 24p).

It's just a matter of aesthetics and what you want it to look like. It will make no difference in the editing process.

Thanks for the input... Let me ask one additional question, if you were shooting stock footage to sell on Pond5 or AlwaysHD, would you shoot 60i or 30p?

Thanks,

Chuck

Personally?... if I were shooting for stock, I'd shoot neither. I'd shoot 24p.

I think the more high-end look of 24p would be the most marketable.

Hi Chuck,

And there's me thinking the XH-A1 only shot HDV in interlace!!

Regards,

Peter.

If you need to output to web, shooting 30F will save you the hassle to deinterlace the footage than in 60i.
