 | cannot create .mov's any longer on windows 7
by baximus on Dec 13, 2011 at 7:15:26 pm |
Hopefully this is a simple fix!
I have Adobe CS4, along with Sony Vegas 9, that I am operating in Windows 7 64 bit.
I have lost the ability to create a quicktime .mov file thru adobe media encoder as well as sony vegas.
Never was a problem in the past. Am I missing a codec that somehow got erased?
Please advise!!!
Thanks!

hello...
when you say "lost the ability", do you mean the movies don't look right or there are other encoding issues, or do you mean that it's simply not an option in the format pulldown?
some other first-step tech support questions would be:
- what changes to your system have been recently made that could cause this?
- have you tried re-installing either or both pieces of software to see if that restores the functionality?

Hello,
Thanks for your speedy response!
The options still exist in the pulldown menus in both vegas and adobe. But when I choose to render an .mov, it flashes the render window very quickly (which shows time remaining for the render, a normal part of the process when its working correctly), and then does nothing. The file directory where I told the .mov to be saved contains nothing.
I actually had a pretty major data recovery on my computer, as my internal hard drive lost its partitioning. They (Microcenter) were able
to retrieve most of the files and copy them to a new hard drive. Its quite possible that something got lost in the process.
I have not tried re-installing the software yet. Im hoping its just a missing codec or something that I can download. My quicktime player will still play existing .movs, I just cannot create them...

hello...
hmm - ya. with a recent data recovery, i'd personally lean towards just reinstalling to get back whatever might of gone missing...
i'm not sure if you can export presets in encoder, but if you have a bunch it would probably be worth finding that out before reinstalling, but of the 2 it definitely seems like the easier route to test to see if it resolves the issue (which i would bet it would)...
you might also be able to just install codecs via the adobe installer for encoder - i really don't remember if that's an option, though...
maybe somebody else knows of a quicker solution, but that's what i'd do...
