Transferring Files from a NTFS hard drive to a Mac
by Kevin Sauve on Oct 1, 2009 at 7:51:18 pm

Hi,

I recently bought a MacBook Pro and cannot figure out how to get my files from my external Seagate (NTFS formatted) hard drive onto my Mac (i.e. when an attempt is made, it says read only). I would like to transfer these files from the Seagate to my new LaCie hard drive (Mac OS Extended(journaled) format). Is there anyway to do this? I know I can reformat my Seagate to Mac OS Extended but I don't want to lose the files that already exist on this drive.

Many thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Kevin

Couple of things you can do.

1. Buy NTFS for Mac (10 day free trial - may be limited, I don't know)
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/download.html

2. Download the MacFuse .dmg and install.
http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/
Then download the ntfs-3g and install.

Good Luck! TC
