Windows Computer hardware for Adobe Production Suite
by Kurt Schuette on Sep 23, 2009 at 9:57:56 pm

Can anybody give any suggestions on the best hardware configuration for using the Adobe Production Suite? I am trying to stay in the $1500 range.
Right now, I am looking to purchase a computer with the following specs once Windows 7 is available.

-Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-920 processor (2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache with QPI Technology)
-8GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM
-1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
-1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]
-Blu-ray writer & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
-16x max. DVD ROM

Thanks for your help!
Kurt

It would help to know what sort of video you plan on working with - DV/SD/HD? If you know specifically what you will be acquiring in, even better.

I will be working, in DV and HDV with footage shot on a Sony FX-1 HDV camera.

Thanks,
Kurt

You're fine with the one drive for DV, but if you plan on compositing with the HDV you may want to look at a faster, 10k rpm drive or set up a raid with more drives. Although the HDV format may tax the processor more than the drive... http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/2/965116

That's a good configuration. Make sure to get high cache on your HD (32). Make sure you get the 64-bit OS. Will you be capturing video?
