AGP graphics card for HD NLE
by numb noggin on Nov 11, 2008 at 1:51:18 am

Greetings,

I am moving from SD to HD NLE.
I havnt the $$ to get a new system so I will will try to improve my current machine.
The NLE applications I use are:
Ulead Media studio pro 8
Ulead DVD Movie factory 7
and other applications:
Particle Illusion 3
DVD Lab Pro 2

My system:
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe MB
AMD AthlonXP 3200 CPU
I Gig RAM
Matrox P750 (64 Meg) AGP Video Card
Dell 24 inch LCD monitor (Full HD)
Windows 2000 Pro SP4

I am thinking to add and extra Gig of Ram and replace the Matrox Video Card.

Your advice and suggestions are welcomed.

Greg

So I'm guessing that you are editing DV material now, and want to do HDV? I'm also guessing that the SD is slow going, if any effects are added. HD will totally bog down this system. Seriously, I think you need to start thinking about new MB/CPU/RAM for HD work, even HDV.
I'm surprised that graphics card drives the Dell 24" LCD monitor.
But if you are in fact sticking with the current PC and the graphics card does drive that monitor fine, then stick with the that card. I would think the RAM is definitely a good choice, and you might want to look into a new CPU. I think that MB will take a 4000 as well as the 3200. I just don't know if it is worth the cost once you look at some of the new MBs and Processors.
