http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

The above page does not distinguish between towers and laptop drivers. Attempting to install the wrong driver usually results in an error message...try it,.
If something does goes haywire, boot into safe mode and do a system restore.

You could also try one of these omega drivers. Site says "These drivers are compatible with all NVIDIA cards that use Detonator/Forceware drivers, it doesn't matter if they are DDR, SDR, PCI, PCI-E, AGP, Laptop, Retail or OEM."
(BTW, I've been using the Omega drivers for my desktops' ATI 9600XT and X800XL cards for about a month now and haven't had a problem.)

Else try here. Think the 56.55 version was one of the more popular/generic versions. There is a general comment at each version's download page.

Also, why not write to Nvidia and ask which version they would recommend for your card...or try the forums at the above two sites.

As Mike advised, make a system restore point first.

Thomas

Thanks Mike and Thomas... yes Mike, the drivers page for Nvidia is a little misleading, because it suggets anything 5600-based is supports, but there is a link buried to another section which explains that the latest Forceware does not laptops, because of encoding required for lid/screen Standby triggers and more complex poer saving devices.
Sending Nvidia an email isn't easy, either. The registration procedure keeps failing.
But the Omega drivers look promising, Thomas. I'll try these and in the meantime try Nvidia again.

Cheers... great to get good help, as always.

Graeme.
