 | Add/Subtract Programs - Microsoft Updates included?
by Bob Cole on Nov 29, 2005 at 2:29:49 am |
I've been trying to clean up a computer, going through many old, unused programs and weeding them out.
In Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs, I found many, many Windows security updates. Can I remove these?

You can remove any or all updates, but why?

in the Add/Remove programs list, files that may simply be the updaters themselves (not the updated files) are referred to as programs. I'm asking whether you can remove them.
I am not certain whether they are actually part of the operating system or not. They are labelled as:
Windows XP - Software Updates
Windows XP Hotfix - KB888302
Windows XP Hotfix - KB888113
Security Update for Windows XP (KB883939)
etc. etc. There are many of them.

Uninstalling a operating system update should restore the original files and registry entries just like you have not done the update.

Thanks. It just seemed odd that MS updates occupy so many lines in my Add/Subtract Programs list. But I'll leave them alone!
