dvd studio pro background still

i'm wondering what pixel dimensions to use for the background still in the menu page? it's a wide screen format dvd from an hd source. i created a background still that was 1920x1080. when i burn the dvd, the image looks very pixelated on a widescreen tv. i know that for standard tv the still should be 720x540 or 720x534 for dv. is there any correlation to this which is causing the pixelation? thanks in advance for your advice. min.
