Creating a PAL DVD - need help!!!
by Herb Sevush on Apr 11, 2008 at 7:46:47 pm

I'm trying to create a PAL version of an NTSC DVD using DVD Studio Pro. I'm doing fine with re-sizing the graphics and, with help from compressor, creating PAL video elements. But I am getting totally frustrated with what as first seemed a minor task - subtitling.

The original sub-title files were done in English for NTSC. We are using the STL format for subtitles. I can't seem to get DSP to read these files into a PAL project. Because of the 25 FPS rate for PAL I tried changing all time codes ending with frames 25 - 29 to end at 24. This hasn't helped.

Can anybody point me in the right direction, or post a small part of a PAL caption file so I might see what I'm missing.

Thanks.

Is DVDSP giving you an error?

Did the compressor encode keep relatively the same timecode.

[Kay Nender] "The video asset timecode may not correspond with the timecode specified for the subtitles"

My guess is if you look at the new TC on the PAL video it starts at 00:00:00;00 instead of 01:00:00;00

Hi Michael,

I tried changing the timecode to hour 0, but DVDSP still won't import the file. I'd really appreciate any other ideas you may have.

Kay

Is this a one-time conversion, or are you making it for duplication/replication?

If a one-time job, then have you tried just playing the NTSC DVD in a PAL DVD Player (I understand most PAL DVD Players will play NTSC DVD's).

Regards,
George

George -

We are creating a DVD for duplication. It's a bonus DVD for a book publisher and they want a PAL DVD for the European versions of the book.
