After Effects - How do I add a stroke showing the path of a car on a racetrack?

I have a shot of a car going down a racetrack. It would be simple enough to add a line showing where the car is going but the shot is panning (camera moving sideways). Does anyone know of a technique I could use to parent the stroke not only to the car but the the moving video as well?
