Logo treatment in LotR trailers...
by Jason Byfield on Oct 20, 2009 at 7:20:00 pm

I'm trying to figure out how to re-create the treatment given to the Lord of the Rings logos shown at the end of the trailers. It starts with a flash of white that diminishes and fades out behind the logo. I've made a couple of simple attempts at this using solids, masks, transparency and various lights but they all look very flat and unrealistic. Here are the three trailers. I couldn't get the links to work right so the time when the logo shows up is below each one:
Fellowship: Logo @ 2:35

Towers: Logo @ 1:29

King: Logo @ 2:46

Thanks for any help.

Doesn't look like a solid white, but a lens flare with the brightness cranked up and scale cranked up then quickly going to 0 composited over the text, using add or screen.

Ya its def a flare/glow of some sort, not a solid in itself. Knoll Light Factory package is the best/most widely used set of glows and flares in the industry.
