sorry this is an age old question, but here we go:
I'm looking to do the old movie effect in a 3 min film. I had a look at Andrew Kramer's tutorial @ videocopilot.net and it looks excellent but it seems that the 8mm footage included is only about 10 secs long. I don't think I understood the tutorial properly!
Is there any way of making that effect from scratch?
- this one is ok but it's not entirely realisitc.
The lines are pretty static and distracting.
However I'm looking for some effects that allow me to do circular vignette that flickers and the whole picture jumps around.
- a bit like this
I hear you have to do something with the wiggler but I'm new to After effects and I'm not sure how that works.

I have been super-pleased with the simple film effects plug-ins from Nattress to get these film effects. And they are easier to customize IMO than an aftereffects project.

Hi Charmaine,
If you like the look of Andrew Kramer's 8mm sample, I would suggest simply looping that sample. It's worked out well for me. I just turn on time remapping for the 10-second clip, alt-click the stopwatch next to the "Time Remap" property and add the expression: loopOut("cycle")
From there, you can stretch the footage to cover any length you desire, and because the footage is so jumpy and random to begin with, no one will really notice the looping.

We have recently released our 8mm Distress Kit - http://www.mediapreview.net/8mm.htm. Designed to add some old skool sizzle to sequences. There's a demo, tutorial and 3 free samples available - check it out.
