Disintergration

Cow Forums : Motion Graphics - How Do I?
Disintergration
by Ryan Stone on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:06:17 pm

Hello everyone,

I realise this may be a broad and complex question, but I'm just testing the waters at the moment so will be happy to hear alternative methods or opinions.

I'll soon be filming a music video, with the band in front of a green-screen. The theme of the video is disintergration. Does anyone have an idea of how to make the band members slowly crack and then disintergrate over the course of the video?

If this is too complex I may look at disintergrating the set or somethign else, but any ideas/tutorials on this theme would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ryan

Off the top of my head: If you're using After Effects you could probably start by investigating use of the Shatter effect, maybe in combination with the CC Ball Action.

You might could also get some interesting cracking by using a solid/precomp with Advanced Lightning as a Track Matte for the band layer. You could also use a time-staggered duplicate of the lightning layer as a displacement map, so the band starts to warp a little bit before cracking open.

Just random thoughts. I hope you find them useful!

Hello Patrick,
Thanks for replying. Apologies for delay - I've been on holiday.
Thank you for your advice and I'll certainly look into the effects you've suggested. However, I don't suppose you know any tutorials or examples of what you've suggested do you? I'm relatively new to AE and self-taught, and got completely lost when you mentioned lightning track mattes and things. I'll get there eventually but just wondered if you had any visual examples?

If not, thank you anyway. I'm off to experiment!

Ryan
