Logo that wraps around a person..using AE CS3?

Hi,
I want to make the company logo fly/wrap around a person.
For example, the commercial is for back pain. There is video of a person with red throbbing aching back pain. Then the back pain product logo flies in and wraps around the persons midsection around the back (like superman flying around the earth) and flies away. The pain is gone.
Could someone please give me the best way to approach something like this?

This kind of thing is done using 3D applications, not After Effects. You may be able to use mesh warps and a few other tricks -- to a point -- but I sure wouldn't want to try and tackle the problem that way.

I agree with Ron, your best shot in ae is with a mesh, or I would use a bezier warp and have both layers in 3d space. You may or may not have to use some layering tricks and or a mask to make it work.
3d is best if you have the skills.

Hi Gary,
If you use Boris RED 4 as a plug-in inside of AE CS3 then you can place the person on a plane, place the logo on a cylinder and place the plane and the cylinder into a 3D container. Then you can rotate the cylinder and the logo will wrap around the person just as you wanted it to.
You can download the Boris RED 4 trial version and use it for free without watermark for two weeks. And you can download it here: www.borisfx.com/downloads

That's what I get for reading these posts so fast! ;o)
I thought the effect was not just a simple clean cylinder wrap but a more uneven map/appliqué to the guy's body/midriff -- hence the 3D app or mesh warp suggestion.
One of these days I'll actually slow down.
:o)
Thanks for popping in, Peter. Nice to see you found this forum.

another method is use monet to roto mask the actor from the background, then you are free to do w/e you want with effects like cylinder effect, then when you add person again, they will automatically overlay the effect perfectly.

You might be able to get the effect using some techniques found in Photoshop for wraping objects with sort of a displacement map. If you can isolate the object you probably use the same trick you would in Photoshop and have your text run over the displacement map.

I recall seeing a tutorial a few years back that used expressions to do this type of effect. I think it demonstrated swirling a string of text around an object. Sorry, can't recall where I saw it, but I believe expressions were used extensively. Maybe Computer Arts magazine? hmmmm
