Advice on interacting with items added against a blue/green screen
by stan welks on Jun 30, 2008 at 8:32:03 pm

I would like to video people against a green/blue screen and later edit in still images and other video clips that the people can interact with while talking. As an example, maybe they will reach offscreen and pull in a video, show it for a few seconds and then push it offscreen in the other direction. I will most likely use Final Cut Pro to do this and Motion, if necessary.

Can anyone who has done something like this provide any general tips for doing this? Does it have to be highly scripted with regards to where the talent moves their hands/arms on/offscreen or can this all be taken care of in post? Anything else I should know before jumping into a project like this?

Thanks.

realistically, without green box props with orange markers for tracking, actors will look fake and their hands will be floating back and forth like a doll arm's glued to a paper bag. It's more work but it's up to you.

1. so are you suggesting the actors hold green props that are later keyed out?

2. how do the orange markers work? Where are they placed?

Thanks!
