Camera motion
by Jose Quiles on Jun 18, 2008 at 6:29:47 pm

Hi everybody!

I'm planning to do a short video (around 30') where a camera moves along the scene "visiting" different parts of the animation. I have left you three captures. The first one is the whole scene, where the camera will move. Then, the second and the third one is the appearance that should have the animation. The arrows show the camera motion. It supposed, that every single element will have its own animation. I'm quite sure you've seen this effect in many places , the problem is that I don't know the name.

My question is about the composition of all the elements and the workflow I should follow. Should I make a big video (around 1200x950) and move up and down the camera? What about leave the camera stationary and move the whole composition? Is there any way to make the composition in small videos and then put them together when everything is done?

Thanks in advance
Jose.

Jose -

If you go into the After Effects templates through your browser (Bridge - Files>Browse Templates) you will see a couple of previews which include oversized comps in which the camera flies around. Open one of them (monolith.aet is a particularly good example) and deconstruct the project. I am relatively new to the "large layout with flying camera" concept, so I'm not sure the best way to approach it, but this template will point you in the right direction.
