 | Avid Dongle as floating license?
by George Rizkallah on May 8, 2012 at 8:48:31 pm |
As I'm adding Avid into our current work flows, the question is coming up as to how best to use it in a facility with 7 bays. Can I just get a dongle and use it as a floating license? I just picked up Symphony V6 but it didn't come with the dongle.

Yep. Install it on every system and plug the dongle into the one you need to use.

New purchases are software activation only, which you can also use as a floating license. When you're done using Symphony just open the Avid License Control and deactivate Symphony, open Symphony on the next computer and reactivate it. I like the dongle better. You can buy one from Avid Inside Sales for $300.

Actually, they will be selling new boxed kits with dongles too (through VARs, not from their webstore).
If you already have Symph 6, you can purchase a dongle as an option, indeed.
