Just bought a Sony A77 DSLR to shoot HD video and edit on my Quad Core Mac running Media Composer 5.5.1.

Can anyone tell me the basic workflow? I can't even get the camera to show up on the desktop when connected via the USB cable supplied. The software that came with it is only for PC. I am frustrated.

I'm an experienced pro editor, but this workflow is new to me.

Please help.

Thanks

D. S. Ramirez

I don't know that camera, but does it use SD card? Of so, Then but a card reader, I believe they are pretty cheap.

Yours Sincerely

Hi Lisa,
I'm Ximena. We just bought the same camera sony A77, we are very glad so far, but still struggeling with all this about formats and convertions. I found your solution one of the best until now I have found, but I have some questions:

1. This format, will be also legible to edit in Final cut pro (mac)?
2. Is this the best solution to not lose HD quality on the video?

Do you know what's the best converter program to use?

I'm very sorry so late reply to you.

1. This format, will be also legible to edit in Final cut pro (mac)?

AVCHD files, including 1080 50p/60p videos, are compatible well with FCP X. But FCP 5/6/7 doesn't support 1080 50p/60p with L&T.

2. Is this the best solution to not lose HD quality on the video?

1080 50p/60p MTS:
If you want to get the original video quality, you have to use Sony Vegas Pro 12, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 or FCP X 10.0.4 to edit videos.

Not 1080 50p/60p MTS:
Most NLE's can support the video now. If not, you can download the MTS Coverter I used to transcode AVCHD(MTS/M2TS) to a playable format. You will find zero quality loss after the conversion.

Sony NEX-FS700 AVCHD to FCP
