Sluggish MC
by Bob Sykes on Sep 10, 2009 at 12:10:52 am

We have 3 Avids that are exactly the same:

MC 3.5.1 w/Mojo
Unity 5.1.2 fiber connected
MAC OS 10.5.6
Intel quad core
4 mb memory

Two systems just run along fine. The third is SOLOWWWWWW.

For instance, when I click in the timeline, it often takes a good 5 to 6 seconds for the playhead to catch up and reposition itself.

11 seconds to close a bin.

MC has started slowing down to th point of really killing the workflow.

Shutdown/restart will sometimes help temporarily, but not much and not always.
I have re-seated fiber cables. No luck.

My editors are starting to get cranky.

Thanks so much!

step one: Smack it upside da head.
step two: Yell "stupid focker!" loud enough the dudes n the next room can hear ya so they know you mean bisuness."
step 3: call 1-800-800-avid and explain the situation.
step 4: agree with em when they say "hmmm, well it otta work fine."
step 5: hang up and yell stupid focker again.
step 6: run avg antivirus and see whats up.
step 7: repeat all steps but step 3 if that doesn't work.
step 8: swap it out with one that works fine and place your youngest editor on the poopy one.
step 9: blame it all on him and tell him to fix it.
step 10: youtube his reaction and make sweet fungage from the viral campaign.. uhm no pun intended.

Surprised no one posted that 4mb is not enough RAM.

Fist, swap just the computer between two systems. If the problem follow the computer you know it's in there. If it stays in the room then it's something to do with the fibre/ethernet, external hardware. Try running without the Mojo or a different port on the Fibre switch

If it's in the computer, swap system drives with another computer. If the problem follows the drive, time for a full reinstall or maybe even a new system drive. If it stays with the computer then its a hardware issue. Start with swapping the fibre card...

Or you could just defrag everything...

That works for me...
