Avid ds trial
by Ed Molina on Oct 7, 2008 at 9:47:45 pm

I downloaded the free trial software of Avid Ds 10 and installed it. However I am experiencing an issue with playback on the source and record monitor.
If I load a quicktime file into the record or source monitor the picture will not play (only plays a still frame). However if I scrub the timeline, the picture will
Play. I have used the old DS 7.6 trial on the same computer with no issues. Do I have this configured wrong? I have a NVIDIA quadra fx 1100 card. Also
I tried to install it on my G5 macpro with bootcamp winxp sp2. The program freezes everytime when it loads. Can I run it on this computer as well? It
Has a Nvidia Geforce card.

I have posted your question on DS Google list. I think there was a discussion there several weeks ago. Search Google groups "DS"

Hi,

DS v10 is pretty tightly written around the GPU abilities of the Quadro cards, therefore you may well have problems with alternative Nvidia cards.

I got v10 working under bootcamp with a 6800 card by following this procedure:
1. Open the nVidia control panel and go to 'Manage 3D settings'
2. Click the 'Program Settings' tab and click 'Add' to add a new program
3. Select ds.exe from C:Program FilesAvidDS_v10
4. In the settings list, scroll down to "Threaded Optimization" and set it to OFF
5. Click apply

This worked for me and others so may well work for you.

Good luck,
Tone :)

Also if you have multiple monitors, you might have to set "Multi-display/mixed GPU accelleration" to "Compatibility performance mode" in the same way as the Threaded Optimization setting.

Re: Avid ds THANKS!
by Ed Molina on Oct 8, 2008 at 6:06:45 pm

A big thanks to everyone! I did change my nvidia setup the first time to steps that bob described, but
I still was getting no playback. However when I changed my two monitors to a Horizontal Span everything worked. Thanks again to everyone.

ps can Ds work with 3 monitors? The 3rd used for a full screen playback (by creating a viewer from
timeline)?

"can Ds work with 3 monitors?"

Good question, Ed.

We'll let you try it and let us know ;-)

Cheers,
Tone :)
