Logo Import
by Chris Bogle on Sep 2, 2008 at 5:22:09 pm

Hi there,

Okay, I'm flummoxed, baffled and feeling like an utter newbie all over again.

I've comped up a logo screen to import into AVID XPress Pro from Photoshop. The logos are all originally created square pixels from various client sources and I've composited them onto new project in PS with PAL DV Widescreen settings and matching PAR. I've tried both square and non-square pixel aspects. All looks fine until I take it into AVID which destroys the edges giving me nasty jaggies. (Project in AVID is set up for Pal DV Widescreen.)

The original logos are all in vector format so I'm starting with high quality, but AVID seems intent on scuppering my atempts at every turn like an evil nemesis. I've tried using Pan and zoom for extra quality but to no avail.

After many years of being an editor this is a problem that I've never really managed to overcome and I'm finally going to solve it. Help! Before I quit and become something less infuriating like a full time needle threader!

Import your logo at 1:1. DV will destroy graphics.

Make sure your timeline is set to show Full Quality (Green/Green toggle on the timeline).

Hit play and see if the jaggies disappear, and look at it on a client monitor (not your computer monitor). When you stop play in Avid it's only showing you 1 field, so graphics often look bad.

What are your import settings? Did you choose Noninterlaced? Try that and Maintain Non-Square.

Michael.
