Avid Audio Issues
by Josh Branson on Aug 16, 2008 at 7:21:04 pm

I'm currently having audio related issues associated with Avid Xpress Pro 5.0 HD, on my homebuilt system. These are my system specs. If I neglect to add something important lemme know and I will throw it up.

-ABIT IS7-E2 motherboard
-2 GB Ram
-Intel 3.2 Ghz Processor
-Creative 24 Bit Live Audio Card
-Dual Dell Monitors
-300 GB Internal Harddrive (IDE)
-CHAINTECH GSE86GT-A1 GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card

The problems stems from a stutter in playback. Also the stutter can start at different times..sometimes it's 10 seconds into playback and sometimes it's a minute into playback...sometimes it holds a letter and repeats it like a machine gun... I've tried a reinstall, changing bit/sample rates, installing new drivers...done just about everything inside of avid in adjusting audio settings. If anyone out there can perhaps give me a new list of possibly problems to check and or things to change I would greatly appreciate it. There's probably a common simple problem here, because I had this working on my system before without a problem.

Thanks,

-Josh

Well it's an internal seagate IDE 300 gb drive, I have a couple of external harddrives both with firewire, but I'm not working with any footage off of them. As for the footage it's self, strictly SD footage coming from my dvx100b.

Why are you on 5.0 and not on a later version? Not sure what your dongle will allow you to run, but my bet is you could at least run 5.2.

try borrowing or using a Firewire drive and try to capture and play media off it...if media plays fine off the firewire drive then you'll know there is something funky going on with your main video drive

A good idea, I will do that. Thank You...but might there be something wrong somewhere else too?

Well it seems that didn't work either. I moved the footage onto an external firewire drive and it's all exactly the same. And special settings inside the sound card config in avid you have to do? And special boxes need checking that one may be unaware of?

Thanks,

-Josh

p.s. Pretty soon I'll put up a nice long list of everything I've done to try and make it work...you will all be amazed...or not I mean it is avid we're talking about here.
