HD media consolidate crashes MC3

We have a Avid MC3 1080i50 timeline containing footage from P2, XDCam and HDV. We have to convert it to FCP, using automatic duck. The first step in this process is to consolidate all media on one drive. However, whenever we try to do a plain consolidate to the firewire drive, without transcoding, Avid crashes - repeatably. We get the same error and crash when we try to render a motion effect. Why? The motion effects play fine in real time.
However, if we select transcode, select DNxHD codec, the avid's MC3 consolidate works - extremely SLOWLY.
The next step is to connect the drive to the mac and import to FCP using automatic duck. The weird thing is that all clips originating from XDCAM and HDV works, while the clips originating from P2 does not work, even though ALL THREE FORMATS were converted to DNxHD by the Avid's transcode process. I even tried to convert the P2 to DNxHD 120 and then the DNxHD 120 to DNxHD 180, the import still fails! Extremely weird!

I still have no idea why the avid crashed when we did a non-transcode consolidate, but I have found that we can import the P2 footage to FCP by just connecting the avid media drives direct to the FCP system. Then we do a recompress media manage in the FCP system to get it to Prores.
However, the HDV and XDCAM footage just would not work this way. We had to convert all of it to DNxHD in the avid first, then import into FCP and convert to Prores.
So, that's how it works. Isn't it amazing that you have to learn a new workflow for almost every job these days?
