Exporting PAL video from a NTSC project
by Kacey Evans on Jul 19, 2008 at 2:17:50 pm

I am working with NTSC video filmed in the US, I need to convert the video to PAL. Is there a effective way to export/convert my NTSC vid to PAL w/ Avid, and with out losing any quality w/ Avid? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

If you are in a 24p or 23.976p SD project, and on Symphony, you can do a pretty nice conversion to either PAL or NTSC upon Digital Cut. If the source is 60i, the best ways to do it involve system conversion boxes like from Teranex.
24p.com features an article about frame rate conversion in Avid, using FluidMotion. In my experience, that doesn't work well on edited footage, though. You might consider Blended Interpolated for that.
