Ancient Avid Problems
by Nicholas Toth on Jul 16, 2008 at 4:43:05 pm

Hey Cowers,

So I'm a motion graphics designer who broke an Avid. I installed cinema 4d network renderer module on an older avid running Media Composer and OS 10.2, which required me to update Java and Quicktime. Wow, don't ever do that, this thing is all kinds of messed up.

First I got this error: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=388661, which seems to be somewhat common in OS 10.2. So I archived and installed and the OS is now running. However, Avid will not start. I click the shortcut on the dock and it bounces twice --- then stops bouncing. The external media drives are not showing up either, and one of the displays is locked into 256 color mode stuck at 640*480.

Can you point me towards any methodologies for this Avid? Its running Media Composer 10 I believe --- in OS 10.2 --- and I'm in hot water because we had to make a quick decision to get more horsepower in a render farm.

I think i'll post this in the OS X forum too.

Thanks everyone!

Reinstall a clean copy of the proper OS. You don't say what version of MC you are running, so check the readme in Avid and install the EXACT version OS it specifies. Then check the readme for the EXACT version of of Quicktime, and install that. Then reinstall Avid. As long as you did'nt mess with hardware configurations you should be golden.
