Master offline audio problem
by Alan Knight on Jul 5, 2008 at 4:44:31 pm

Hallo,

Can someone help!? Have a big problem with an edit where the master audio (MXF Files) has gone offline and so i cannot listen to my edit on the timeline - picture is fine but not sound. Is there any way that i can bring back my master audio into the bin? Perhaps it has to do with copies of the project files in another drive, but i tried relink and this did not help. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Best regards
Alan

Can you see them in the MediaTool? Or have they been deleted?

Hallo Michael,

Yes they are in the Media Tool but audio is offline! I also have a copy of the MFX files in another drive, but both drive's files have probably got the sound files on them. When I ask Media Tool to check files on second drive it just can't see anything. I am completely baffled!!

Best regards
Alan

So if you drag the audio files you see from the MediaTool into the bin and load them up, you still hear nothing? Make sure your audio settings are properly set for the sample rate - for example a 44.1k project with 48k media - depending on settings, it may play as silent.

Well, it appears the MFX files have both video and audio - in the Media Tool Bin, and also the Avid Bin, the info tells me that a file is V1 + A1 and A2, but in the next column headed 'offline' the audio files are offline. This has been working fine for the last week and suddenly today this appeared.

Looks like the A1 and A2 of the file have gone missing. From that master clips, do a File>reveal file and see it finds the trhee individual file associated with that master clip.

I checked reveal file and it tells me nothing about individual files - just an MFX file. I think that the audio is on them as the files are the same size as before.

Avid MXF files in the Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 folder have a separate track for each V, A, etc. so a VA1A2 file will have three mediafiles associated with it in that folder. When doing a reveal file from the master clip, in your case, it will find the first, then ask if you want to find the, the next and the next.

In your hard drive crash, did you lose files? Have you tried trashing the MSM files in the folder and letting them rebuild? Are you in HD or SD? Did you create MXF for the picture and OMF for the audio?

I'll look again but it didn't respond that way, so I'll have another go.

I didn't lose files from this project. This project is HD. All the files, both pic and sound, are MXF. I can't understand how all was ok for a week then the sound just disappears!!

Hallo Michael,

Still have the problem but maybe here's a clue to the problem. I realised I brought into the music bin a couple of tracks to listen too which were OMFI files. Perhaps this has created the problem? I've deleted them now, checked the media tool and still no audio on A1 and A2, but perhaps you have a suggestion of what i could do next? Maybe I'm on the wrong track but you mentioned this recently about mixing MFX and OMFI files.
