USB Labtec Mic For Auido Punch-in
by Ben Wharton on Jul 4, 2008 at 2:38:57 pm

Hi

I have a client with Avid Xpress Pro 5.8 on a PC laptop system which I configured for him. He's trying to use a LabTec AK537 USB mic on the system (it comes up as a webcam within XP for some reason) and he's having trouble getting the mic to be recognised within Avid for guide VO use.

If the 'Use Windows mixer' option is used within the sound config, then avid says there's no sound card detected on load up. If he goes to Sound Control panel and switches to using the hardware as a preferred recording device, nothing.

My audio routing knowledge is a bit rusty. The system has a wonderful built in RealTek audio system - works fine for straight editing.

Oh, and it's a horrible Sony VAIO VGN-AR31 - nothing cerified (or specced by me), but when wiped, stripped and configured properly, works great - well, except with this mic!

Any pointers, most appreciated.

Ben

No one got any suggestions?

Or put another way, anyone having success with USB mics for punch-in audio tool, and what did they re-route for Avid to pick it up?

Thanks.
