A1 audio tracks offline (about half of them)
by Mark Erickson on Jul 2, 2008 at 9:02:28 am

I logged on to Avid Media Composer, and realized that about half of my clips showed the A1 audio track offline. The other half were fine. I don't have alot of files, about 168 I think.

I tried deleting the database files like 5 times. I renamed the OMFI folder, made a new OMFI MediaFiles folder, copied everything over to it except the database files and tried that with no luck. I even copied my original backup copy of the OMFI MediaFiles folder that I made when I started the project, and it still showed the same clips having the A1 track offline.

Also, I tried duplicating a file, to see how the new file would appear, and after I duplicated it and deleted the duplicate, it then showed all three tracks offline on the original.

I went into properties and shared the folders. I just have no other ideas.

I am using Vista 32 bit and I have my files on a Lacie external hard drive. My nextstep, I guess, will be to make a new partition, and reinstall Avid MC and see if a new install will see the A1 tracks, if nobody can help me, but I am not even optimistic about that at this point.

Can anyone help me?

What version of Media Composer? Are these P2 files, or were they imported or captured from tape?

Michael.

Thanks for replying. The were captured from tape. It is a film school project; all the files were provided to us, we have to edit them (same files are given to everyone, every semester). The version of Media Composer is 2.8.

If you're on 2.8 I'm surprised it's running at all on Vista. You really need to run XP Pro if you're running 2.8, or upgrade to 3.0 if you need/want to run Vista. I wouldn't be surprised if this is what's causing your issue.

Can you get the upgrade to 3.0, or downgrade your OS to XP Pro?

Michael.

Funny, I thought I had read that 2.8 was compatible with Vista, but after reading your post I searched it and I see that it isn't. I think I can do both options you mentioned. I will try one or both options and report back if it doesn't work.

Thanks very much.

I am not having any luck with this. Here is what I have tried:

1) I made a new partition and installed XP and did a fresh install of Avid 2.8. I tried to read the files and still half the files (the same ones as before) show the A1 track offline.

2. I deleted the two database files and restarted Avid, no change.

3. I disconnected the hard drive, and copied my original backup of the OMFI MediaFiles folder into the root directory of the new partition with XP on it; deleted the database file; and then copied my project folder over to the root directory, as well. Restarted Avid and still it can't see half the A1 audio tracks.

So now I have replaced the OMFI folder, the database folder, the Operating System, and Avid, and it still sees the same A1 tracks offline. Could it be something in my project folder? Is there a setting somewhere in Avid that I could have accidently changed to set the files to offline status?

I just don't get this??/
