Avid Demo Version
by Rich Krysz on Jun 24, 2008 at 4:30:56 am

I remember a friend telling me a few years ago you can download a free demo version of Avid that isn't fully functional but good for those trying to learn the interface. I'm trying to find it but can't. Anyone out there know if it exists and wehre.

Avid did have a version called FreeDV. Very limited. It is no longer available.

To the best of my knowledge, the closest you can get to a demo is to contact a reseller and arrange for one with them.

The short answer is Avid discontinued the product (Avid FreeDV) and pulled support for it. You can probably scare a copy up through a search, but you'll also need the unlock code for it.

Truthfully, it wasn't necessarily the best introduction to Avid. It worked on my computer but was flaky on a few other boxes of classmates I knew. Your introduction should be to the interface, not Avid's hardware finickiness.
