Avid DV Xpress dongle question

This is an easy one.
Should a dongle be included with a DV Xpress software box or do you register it and THEN get sent the dongle?
I purchased the entire software, original installation CDs, manual and box from Amazon.com (used) and sure enough, no dongle. What's wierd is that it seems to be working without it, but I anticipate it'll give me a message soon enough saying, "Hey dude---you need a dongle."
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Paul
P.S. This NOT a pirated piece of software and it says "Unregistered" on the opening screen upon launch.

There was a version of XPress DV that didn't have a dongle, but I can't remember which one. What version did you buy? Have you called Avid to see if you should have a dongle?

I have a box with Avid Xpress DV printed on it with parachutists on the front. It was version 4.8 but I upgraded to 4.8.1. Is this considered Avid Xpress DV Pro now or do I just have an upgraded version of Avid Xpress DV?
It seems as if the program is working fine without the dongle as I have registered it with Avid and I get no error messages or whatever, so perhaps this is the version without the dongle. But now comes the million dollar question, can I upgrade this version to a Media Composer even though it doesn't have a dongle?

You have the version of Xpress DV that doesn't require a dongle - just your serial number i believe. Avid no longer sells this software, as well as Xpress Pro. There is an upgrade path first to Xpress Pro ($495) then from Xpress Pro to MC (another $495 or $395 if you don't want the books and the third party software.
Check the online store for upgrades.
