Final Cut Pro to Avid Express Pro
by Jay Williams on Jun 12, 2008 at 5:44:19 pm

I have a Final Cut System that I edit a fishing segment on from my office. I deliver it to a local TV station that airs it each week. Normally as a quicktime file in DV codec that works fine in their Avid Newscutter system.

So what's the big deal right? Well, I just started shooting it in HD and can edit and theoretically deliver an HD copy that they would then air during a newscast. Problem - they're not set up to really do HD through the control room, but they CAN air it in HD with a work around that they've been using for a few months.

Is there a file that I can export from FCP that will play nice in Express Pro, so they can then take it from there and air it in HD?

Thanks for your help.

-Jay

Have you tried the Avid DNX HD codecs?

I feel really out of the loop trying to go back and forth between the two, but I just downloaded the Avid Codecs and have Quicktime Pro processing right now. I'll give it a try. Until you mentioned it I really didn't think to check if Avid had their own codecs. Thanks for the suggestion. If it doesn't work I'll be back.

Actually it's been a couple weeks of spinning my wheels.

I downloaded the avid codecs and gave them a couple versions to test. There are a couple people who want to get this segment on in HD (if it's not much more work - Me too!) but some people don't want to step outside of their normal day to get things figured out.

We'll see how it turns out. I'm going to keep trying on a limited basis, but I can't get anyone to test it on their end and get back to me, so I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for checking back.
