For Shane Ross-Sony EX-1 XDCAM with Xpress

Shane,
I've been working on a documentary for 6 months, shooting on the Sony Z1, HDV 60i, 1440x1080, 25mbs. The footage is fine, but the camera is not very sensitive and bad in low light. I recently bought and have been using the Sony EX-1 very happily and successfully with FCP and want to use it on an important shoot coming up Friday. I need to leave tomorrow for Boston (I'm in LA) and our New York editor has been unable to import the files from the EX-1 that I've sent her (she's using Xpress Pro) I tried Bob Russo's tutorial to create MXF files for the Avid (http://community.avid.com/blogs/training/archive/2008/01/28/sony-xdcam-ex-with-the-avid-media-composer.aspx) but XDCAM Clip Browser only exports in its PC version, it seems, not in the Mac version. I tried using XDCAM Transfer software, creating Quicktimes, which work in FCP, but the AVID does not play that audio. I'm stumped, I'd like to use this camera, but can't afford to shoot the next week's events and not be able to use them. Help, please, need an answer tonight, so I know which camera to pack.

Thank you, Bill Megalos

This is an omission on Sony's part, for some reason... Avid only properly supports the MXF-wrapped files, and the Mac browser can't make them. The simplest solution would see to be get a spare Windows computer to do the re-wrapping with, or use Bootcamp or a PC emulator on the Mac to run the Windows version.

Thank you, that's what I figured. I'm hoping the Clip Browser 2.0 which is promised in July will take care of that.
