Avid Lanshare EX repurpose
by billy earle on May 15, 2008 at 10:41:03 pm

Hi all. We just moved from the Adrenalines to FCS and the Facilis when we went HD. I have an Avid Lanshare EX that I would like to turn into a server.

I'm not very familiar with networking etc, so pardon my ignorance. Could I install Apache Server or just use the Widows Server 2003 on the thing and away I go?

I can't connect to it through fiber manager or connection manager b/c they don't like Leopard and I can't stand to have 3TB just sitting around not being used.

Thanks,
Billy

could you put the lanshare on the Facilis as a fiber client?

Bobby,

I don't know but that sounds like a good option. I've had no luck in finding answers to what I can do with a 3TB Avid Lanshare now that we no longer use Avid software.

I'd like to use it as a place to back up all the desktop machines or as a web server but I'm not sure how to go about that.

Can the machine be be used as a Win2003 Server (that's what is installed on it) without using the Unity software - just uninstalling it?
