220x transfer drives
by Joe Huggins (Film Joe) on May 6, 2008 at 1:43:41 pm

I need to transfer HDCam direct to FW drive in 220x DNxHD so a client can take the drive to his system to edit. I only need to input one stream of 220x to a drive. Avid does not qualify other drives, but has anyone found that a G-Tech FW800 drive or similar can read and write one stream without going to an internal raid array first? I want to avoid dubbing to a raid, then transfering to a FW drive. Can it be done in one step direct to FW 800 portable drives?

Anyone...anyone...Buehler? Thanks, Joe

Thanks, Film Joe

We can capture 1080p ProRes 422 HQ directly to a LaCie FW800 drive, which has an almost identical bitrate to DNxHD 220 I think.

Only way to know really is to try. Capturing is much harder on drives that playback, also.
