Creating shadow from Green Screened person mapped onto a plane
by Bob Carter on Oct 26, 2009 at 5:06:12 pm

I have been able to map a person shot against green screen onto a plane in Invigorator Pro so the figure appears very realistically in the 3D scene. However, when I set up the lights so they cast shadows, the plane that the person is mapped onto is what casts the shadow--a big rectangle. Is there a way to set it up so the shadow of the person mapped is what you see? Or is the only way to have a person mapped onto a plane is to do it without allowing any shadows? Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,

When 3D Invigorator sets up the lighting, it takes the shape of the object to cast the reflection. So, even though we are using techniques to mask the shape of the plane, the projected shadow will still be the plane.

One alternative you may look into is that if you keep the green screen set separate from your 3D scene, you can cast shadows in your 3D scene, while not casting shadows in the green screen set. This way, things look realistic in your scene, and you will not get the shadow of the plane.

Best,
Edward
