DVCPRO HD 1080p25 codec seems missing
by John Twigt on Aug 17, 2009 at 6:16:14 pm

Does anybody know if in V14 the 1080p25 codec has been left out? I'm not able to import XML files from FCP in this format. Also the ingested (by FCP) files cannot be played with the QT-player of my M100 startup disk. Everything is fine in FCP startup. Is there a way to 'make' the 1080p25 tagged files into 1080i50 format? (in fact they were shot on a Panny HPX500 in 1080i50 format but somehow while ingesting FCP 'thinks' they're 1080p25. I'm confused and somewhat frustrated, in Media100 V12 (and maybe V13, not sure) I could exchange without problems.

Any suggestions are welcome.
(using FCP 6.0.6, m100 V14, aja LHE with drivers 6.0.3, mac osx 10.5.7. (m100) 10.5.8 (FCP) PPC 4x2.5 GHZ, QT 7.6.2.)

Do you have the codecs installed? You need the DVCPro codecs from FCP. Since you cannot view the files in QT Player, I guess they are missing. Simply copy them over from your FCP startup drive. Btw, you also can install Media100 and FCP on the same startup drive…

Floh, while we're talking about 1080 x 25P, can we import and edit Progressive in version 14, either on the G5 PPC or the G5 Intel?

Hi Floh, I have all the codecs installed, as I said I did do the procedure before when running V12, so I'm baffled now.
I have the feeling that FCP does interpret the footage wrong while ingesting. The same footage when ingested in M100 isn't 1080p25 but 1080i50! I don't think this gas to do with codecs but with formats. Is there anybody out there with the same setup as I? (ingesting P2 footage (1080i) in FCP 6 and exporting this with XML to M100 V14?

Now that we can run FCP and M100 on the same disk, as you say, I will install V14 on the same disk and try again.
I suppose OSX 10.5..8. is suited for the (V14) suite V1?

Re: DVCPRO HD 1080p25 codec seems missing

UPDATE :
I installed V14 on the same startup disk as FCP, so the forementioned 1080p25 clips from FCP can be played in QT-player, so the codec is active.
When importing XML file M100 says immediately while trying to import the shots "are you sure you want to cancel the media import?" When choosing 'no' it just repeats over and over until you hit 'yes' and then the imported sequence is offline.
When I try to import the ingested files (QT flies from the FCP media folder) directly from the finder it gives a program error code -9077. The application now has crashed because all actions will result in a error code of -9077.

What could be going on here?

I am seriously handicapped here, because I have a complete project ingested by FCP (including offline edits by another editor) and i am now forced tot stay within FCP. Not really my favourite NLE ....

John, can you zip one of the media files and upload it somewhere, like YouSendIt or an FTP server to have a look at it? Not really sure what is going on here…

Hey John,

When you do get something available to look at, please send the link to support@media100.com with my name, Wick, included in the subject line. My engineers want to take a look at them.

Thanks,
Wick

Did you and Wick receive the file I sent you? Just curious if the Yousendit arrived.

thanks

Got it. Will pass it on to Engineering and see what they think.

Thanks Floh and Wick for your responses.

I've been away from my set since this morning around 11, so just a moment ago I read the posts.

First thing tomorrow morning I will make a clip available to both of you.
I'm also very curious what could be going on here.

Hi John,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The truth is it is because we have been unable to reproduce your problem with the media you send us. (although it DID help us fix another unrelated bug. Thanks!)

So... I'm beginning to think that your troubles are install-related.

I'll be in touch with you via email about what to try next as, at this point, it's pretty safe to say that your problems are specific to you and your system.

An update:

i have been able to solve the problem with errors on opening the XML file in M100. (Had to do with permissions on hard drives). It now opens but starts rendering the files. It interpret the files as SD, so it creates a 1080 (green) screen with in the upperleft corner the SD-sized image from the original file. Quit confusing. All settings are fine (everthing on 1080 etc etc) I tried several exports and imports with different export settings (xml versions and including metadata on/off )

Im ' in the middle of a huge project (15 films) so I'm not able to spend a lot of time testing every possibility. Seems that i'm stuck with FCP for now.

WICK: from your answer I understand that you have some options for me to test? Please let me know if you've got something, ok?

Strange,

I am having no trouble importing the file that you provided for us to to test with (the tracking shot outside the fort -- 003805).

However, I DID see the problem you describe (mostly green screen with a small frame of the image in the corner) with an in-house build of M100 while we were working out the problem. Perhaps your install of M100 is in some sort of limbo between v1.0 and 1.0.1?

I'll run another test and report back soon.

Okay, try this...

Copy your file to another drive volume and then import it from there. Simply duplicating the file on the same drive isn't enough.

Try that and let us know what happens.
